Emperor Franz Joseph, Maria Theresa and the famous Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) lived in Schönbrunn Palace. Another highlight besides the castle itself is the beautiful castle park, which invites visitors to relaxed walks.
In addition to the Crown Prince Garden, this garden also houses the Orangery Garden and the Maze as well as the Palm House, the Tiergarten and the Desert House. Schönbrunn Palace with its impressive palace garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
ST. STEPHEN'S CATHEDRAL
Vienna landmark
The world-famous St. Stephen’s Cathedral, affectionately called “Steffl” by the Viennese, is the landmark of the city of Vienna. The beginnings of the cathedral date back to 1137; however, the construction work itself took many years and the complete completion was only around 1587.
Due to the work and different construction steps, however, it is difficult to name a correct year of completion. The south tower of the cathedral with its height of approx. 136.4 meters is the highest tower of the building. The tower is also open to visitors and offers a beautiful view over the city center.
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, like the State Opera, is easiest to reach by train. From the terminus opera it is only about 10 minutes walk to St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
